How does the app check my product?

Insect Check analyses the product's listed ingredients. The app compares ingredients and additives against an extensive, continuously maintained list of ingredient names, E numbers, scientific terms and common spelling variants associated with insects and insect-derived components. Any matches are then presented clearly in the result.

Where does the product information come from?

Product information comes from Open Food Facts, an open, community-maintained food database containing more than 3.6 million products. New or regional products may be missing, and existing entries may be incomplete, incorrect or outdated. We therefore cannot guarantee that every product will be found or assessed completely and accurately. The current ingredient list on the package always remains the decisive source.

Are my scans or personal data collected?

We do not collect any personal information from you. You do not need an account to use the app. Only your scan history is stored on your device.
